Budget Narrative (no more than 1 page.): You must also complete the SEPARATE BUDGET PAGE. The budget narrative should demonstrate a logical connection to the goals described (above), and should be specific enough to give reviewers an idea of your priorities and focus for funding. The budget does not need to identify brand names of equipment or include “to the penny” prices. The narrative should include: (10 Points)
• Justification for the major expenditures proposed, especially salaries
• Explanation of any items on the budget sheet that might not be completely clear to a reader.

FOR THE GRANT

In order to have dedicated laptop computers for each fourth grader, the school needs to purchase 11 laptops, and a cart. The other five needed laptops can come from the current cart which would still have enough computers for the grades 3, 5, and 6 classrooms to share. The school has site licenses for a wide variety of software tools that would be added to the new laptops. A document

The professional development funds will be used to contract with Jim Moulton (http://jimmoulton.org) to spend 2-3 days in August working with the Grade 4 teacher to prepare the classroom and curriculum for taking full advantage of this opportunity. If this pilot is successful, then Grade 5 would be added next year and Grade 6 the following year. Using a staggered leasing strategy, it is expected that the school board and community would support the incremental budget increases to expand this model to Grades 5 and 6.
